Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long should I burn my candle?

Avoid "marathon burns"; 2–4 hours per session is ideal. Always trim your wick before every burn!

  • How do I prevent my candle from tunneling?

Prevent your candle from tunneling by insuring the initial burn lasts 3-4 hours, and subsequent burns ~2 hours which allows the wax pool to reach the edges.

While the candle is lit and the wax is soft, gently “hug” the top edges inward to encourage a full, even melt pool.

  • What are the stripes or “wet spots” in my container candle?

A "Handmade" indicator. “Wet spots” along with frosting (white, crystal-like patterns), are often seen as a sign of natural, hand-poured soy wax. These are strictly cosmetic, and do not affect the scent, burn time or overall quality of your candle.

  • My candle is still producing soot even though I keep the wick trimmed. Why?

Is your candle near a vent? Or an open window? What about in a high traffic area of the home? These will cause drafts, which will cause the flame to dance. A dancing flame will produce soot due to incomplete combustion.

  • Are your wood bowls fire proof?

No, they are wood and will catch fire if not properly cared for. With every purchase of one of our wood bowls, we include burning instructions that are solely for these candles. Please read them! Remember, never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep your wicks trimmed away from the sides of the bowl.

  • How long do your candles burn for?

Our 4” pillars burn for roughly 100 hours.

The 6” pillars burn for around 200 hours.

Our 9” pillars burn for an estimate of 300 hours.

Votives burn for 15-20 hours each.

  • Why should I trim my wick?

A wick that is too long can cause the candle to burn too hot, leading to the production of soot. Not trimming your wick can also cause the candle to burn unevenly, resulting in wasted wax and lost burn time which is not what we want for our customers!

  • Why should I buy your candles?

Our candles are made with premium ingredients that are Proposition 65 compliant and phthalate free. Phthalates are chemical scent extenders that are added to fragrance oils to help the scent last longer and disperse through the air quicker. They have been known as endocrine disruptors which could interfere with the body’s hormone system, potentially leading to reproductive/development issues, respiratory problems and an increased cancer risk.

  • Are your candles safe to burn around pets?

Per a local vet, only you can decide if the scent you’re burning affects your pet. Just like humans – we all have scents we like and don’t like. If you notice your pet spending more time in another room than where your candle is burning, they probably don’t care for the scent.

  • Returns and exchanges

Unfortunately, due to our products being handmade, we are unable to offer any refunds. However, if the candle you purchased ends up not being the right scent for you, we do offer in-store exchange BUT the candle MUST be in the exact same condition in which it left our store – not damaged and/or lit. An exchange is only valid for the same size/type of candle. For example, a 4” will be exchanged for another 4”. Or a package of tea lights will be exchanged for another package of tea lights.

  • What kind of wax do you use in your candles?

Full Moon Candle Company uses fully refined paraffin and a paraffin/soy blend.
